Who Are We?
Established in 1998, the Albany Students' Association Inc. is a not-for-profit incorporated society whose three main functional areas are those of Advocacy, Representation and provision of student-related Services.
We are a focal point for student issues and are actively involved with student matters on a day-to-day basis. If you have a problem, no matter what it might be, YOUR students' association is the place to go – we are students serving students.
ASA's Mission:
“To foster and further as widely as possible, the educational, cultural, social and sporting life of the members of the Association, the University, and the Community at large.”
A Brief History:
Massey University arrived in Albany in 1991 and bought a 65-hectare block situated between Albany Highway, State Highway 1 and Bush Road with its southern boundary contained by Oteha Valley Stream and the northern boundary adjoining the Albany Presbyterian Church. Massey was well aware of the earning potential associated with establishing a campus in the Auckland area, consolidating its extramural base, promoting itself to the Auckland students and acting as a gateway for international students.
Beginning with just over 450 students, the campus has grown to around 5,500 making it the fastest growing campus in the country. But with this growth have come many challenges for students in terms of service provision and academic standards. It was 1998 that students decided to incorporate their own organisation so that they could elect members to represent them on the myriad Massey University committees and ensure that their voice was heard loud and strong in their campus community.
ASA has a proud history continually striving to be relevant and better serve the needs of its members.
