SNOW CLUB TRIP #3 TO MT RUAPEHU
Massey University Albany Snow Club (MUASC) (2019/R6)
On the 4th of October the MUASC set off for a trip to Mt
Ruapehu, our last club trip for the winter snow season of 2019! A few of us
went down early Friday morning to board on Friday while the rest of the group
came down late Friday evening. The weather on Friday was amazing, probably
being the best weather that we’ve had for any club trip this year! We stayed in
the MUAC Hut on the Turoa side of the mountain. We woke up early Saturday
morning and got ready for the snow. The weather was not great however, as it
was a bit foggy for the majority of the day. Despite the poor conditions, everyone
had a great time however. Luckily we had a fire to dry all of our gear out
after the day.
This time we had our Palmerston North counterpart, the Massey Surf, Snow
and Skate club stay with us both nights. We had a great time seeing then again
and meeting some new people from the club. On the Sunday morning we awoke to
far better conditions on the mountain. We headed on to the slopes and spent the
day skiing/boarding. Everyone had a great time and we were all glad we got to
go down to the snow. We had one of the Palmy club members taking photos for us
so some of us got some action shots in the terrain park.
As we applied for a grant from the ASA and it was approved, the costs of travel and accommodation was greatly reduced. We were also lucky enough to be able to use the ASAs van, meaning it was far easier to get everyone down to the snow. We are very grateful for the committee approving the grant, and for the ASAs help in getting us down there. We couldn’t have done it without them!
