  • Nominations open: 14th August 2017
  • Nominations close: 24th August 2017
  • Voting opens: 29th September 2017 5pm

Nominations

Each nominee must complete a nomination form, see above, and is required to obtain the support of at least 10 ASA members who have signed up for membership on the ASA website.  Students may sign up in order to nominate a candidate. We recommend that you get all 15 lines on the nomination form filled up just incase 1 of your supporters has not signed up for membership. 

Nomination forms must be handed in at ASA reception in the student lounge or emailed to office@asa.ac.nz.

ASA reception is open from 9am-4pm Monday - Thursday.

If nominations are emailed, they must be received by 5pm on Thursday 24th August.

Nominations as they are received are listed against each position. 


Roles

You are able to run for more than one position, though we urge you to consider which role you could fulfil best as you cannot hold office for more than 1 position.

More information on the roles can be found in the ASA Constitution (section 12) and Schedule 1.

If you are considering one of the senior roles, we hope that you will have some knowledge of the Association, either as an experienced ASA executive member, through our Class Advocate programme or via affiliated clubs and their committees.

Due to the demands of these other roles, please do not submit a nomination to serve on the ASA Executive if you are planning to be Massey Guide or Residential Assistant. 


President (1 position)

The President is the primary elected officer of the Association and is responsible for ensuring that the core objectives and goals or the Association are met. The President has the responsibility of negotiating the Association's contract with the University for the ultimate benefit of the students represented. The President is the media spokesperson for the Association. 

Skills required for this position:

  • Developed leadership skills with an ability to motivate the executive team
  • Vision for the future direction of the Association and ability to implement ideas
  • Financial acumen
  • Objective and creative approach
  • Good organisation - planning etc
  • Ability to chair meetings and keep them on track
  • Active listening skills
  • Bucket-loads of enthusiasm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Willingness to learn

Students considering this position will need to commit to a minimum of 15 hours a week on Association related activity including negotiated regular office hours.
An honorarium of up to $10,000 gross is associated with this senior position.

Vice-Presidents (2 positions, Administration VP & Social VP)

The 2 Vice-Presidents will assist the President to meet the core objectives of the Association.  In the absence of a President, the Vice-Presidents will fulfill the role of the President. The Vice-Presidents are jointly responsible for the promotion and marketing of the Association. 

Students considering this position will need to commit to a minimum of 8 hours a week on Association related activity including negotiated regular office hours.
An honorarium of up to $5,000 gross is associated with these senior positions.

Administration Vice-President

The Administration Vice-President is responsible for the administration of the Association, including meeting agenda and minutes, policy and constitutional updates and the annual election. They are responsible for ensuring that the student executive remain informed, keep to budget, go to meetings, update and develop policy which is representative of the needs and wants of the Auckland students. This role is crucial for the effective and efficient working of the student executive.

Skills required for this position:

  • Emerging leadership skills with an ability to mentor executive team members
  • Team player
  • Competency in administration & financial acumen
  • Objective and creative approach
  • Good organisation - planning etc
  • Ability to chair meetings and keep them on track in the absence of the President
  • Active listening skills

Nominations Received:

Social Vice-President

The Social Vice-President is responsible for promoting campus culture and student interaction by way of running events and working with the general executive to engage students in social activity, ensuring there are opportunites for all demographics at Massey Albany. They will manage the delivery of social activities on behalf of the Association including, but not limited to, orientations, the annual Ball and clubs support. 

Skills required for this position:

  • Emerging leadership skills with an ability to mentor executive team members
  • Outgoing confident personality
  • Team player
  • Creative approach
  • Good organisation & competency with budgets
  • Ability to chair meetings and keep them on track in the absence of the President

Nominations Received:


General Executive (4 positions)

The 4 General Executives will be responsible for implementing the strategic goals of the Association which shall be set for their year of office. Specific portfolios will be divided between the 4 members.  The General Executive will each make a regular contribution to activities planned by the Association and will play an essential part in the promotion and marketing of the Association to the student body.

Students considering this position will need to commit to a minimum of 5 hours a week on Association related activity.
An honorarium of up to $2,000 gross is associated with these positions.

Campaign Materials and Meeting

All candidates will be required to attend a compulsory Campaign Meeting before commencement of campaigning.  This meeting will be at 10am on Monday 28th August in the Student Lounge.

All candidates will be invited to supply a headshot photograph and a blurb of no more than 200 words which will be published on the Association website. This should be supplied no later than Monday 4th September. 

ASA will also provide each candidate with the opportunity to record a short, 2 minute video, that you can use for promotional purposes. 

ASA will print on behalf of each candidate, the equivalent of 40 * A3 (e.g 80 * A4, or 12 * A5) posters or fliers, provided a PRINT-READY file is provided. 

Candidates may spend no more than $115 on their campaign and must provide a record of all expenditure to the Returning Officer, if requested to do so. 

All candidates must attend at least one meeting of the ASA Executive prior to the election. Meetings are held at the ASA Office in the Student Lounge. Please advise the Administration Vice-President (AVP@asa.ac.nz)which meeting you will be attending. 


Candidates' Speeches BBQ

ASA will host a BBQ between 12pm and 2pm on Wednesday 27th September and each candidate will have the opportunity to speak to the student population and answer questions. 


Voting

All currently enrolled, Albany Internal students are eligible to vote but to do so need to sign up as members of the Association on the ASA website.

Voting will be online through the ASA Website.  Members will need to sign in on the members panel to vote.
