Why Stand for Election?

In a nutshell, because student representation in universities is important.

  • Nominations open: 28th May 2018
  • Nominations close: 26th July 2019 - 12pm - midday

Please note, that the forms below relate to 2016 and will be updated in due course. 


Nominations

Each nominee must complete a nomination form, see above, and is required to obtain the support of at least 10 ASA members who have signed up for membership on the ASA website.  Students may sign up in order to nominate a candidate. We recommend that you get all 15 lines on the nomination form filled up just incase 1 of your supporters has not signed up for membership. Please make sure that both you and the students nominating you are current Massey Albany internal students  and ASA members.  If you do not have 10 ASA members nominating you, your nomination is invalid. Students cannot vote for you unless they have signed up as members to the ASA.

Nomination forms must be handed in at ASA reception in the student lounge or emailed to office@asa.ac.nz.

ASA reception is open from 9am-4pm Monday - Thursday.

If nominations are emailed, they must be received by 12pm, midday on 26th July 2018. 


Roles

You are able to run for more than one position, though we urge you to consider which role you could fulfil best as you cannot hold office for more than 1 position.

If you are considering one of the senior roles, we hope that you will have some knowledge of the Association, either as an experienced ASA executive member, through our Class Advocate programme or via affiliated clubs and their committees.

Due to the demands of these other roles, please do not submit a nomination to serve on the ASA Executive if you are planning to be Massey Guide or Residential Assistant. 

An hononorarium payment is awarded for each position as agreed at the Association AGM in July.

The term of office is from 1st January 2019 to 31st December 2019.   


President (1 position)

The President is responsible for overseeing and supervising the administration and effective running of the Association.

Students considering this position will need to commit to a minimum of 2.5 days a week over at least 40 weeks on Association related activity including negotiated regular office hours. An honorarium of up to $17,000 gross is associated with this senior position.

Vice-President (1 Position)

The Vice-President is responsible for ensuring that the ASA executive remain informed, keep to budget, go to meetings, update and develop policy which is representative of the needs and wants of the Auckland students.

Students considering this position will need to commit to a minimum of 1.5 days a week over at least 40 weeks on Association related activity including negotiated regular office hours. An honorarium of up to $9,500 gross is associated with this senior position.

Executive (2 positions)

Students considering these positions will need to commit to a minimum of 1 day a week over a minium of 40 weeks on Association related activity including negotiated regular office hours. An honorarium of up to $6,500 gross is associated with these positions.

Clubs' & Engagement Executive: The Clubs' and Engagement Executive is responsible for promoting campus culture/student engagement by way of running events, working with clubs and supporting volunteering.

Education Executive:  The Education Executive is responsible for promoting excellence in education at Massey Auckland.

Representative Positions (4 positions)

Students considering these positions will need to commit to a minimum of 1 day a week over a minium of 30 weeks on Association related activity including negotiated regular office hours. An honorarium of up to $4,000 gross is associated with these positions.

Social Representative (2 Positions): The 2 Social Representatives work closely with and report to the Association's Clubs' and Engagement Executive to provide student-led events enhancing the student experience.

Welfare Representative: The Welfare Representative's focus is on the health and well-being of students who are studying at the Massey Auckland campus.

Academic Representative: The Academic Representative works closely with and reports to the Association's Education Executive, this role has the Class Advocate system as a primary focus.

Campaign Materials and Meeting

All candidates will be required to attend a compulsory Campaign Meeting before commencement of campaigning.  

All candidates will be invited to supply a headshot photograph and a blurb of no more than 200 words which will be published on the Association website. This should be supplied no later than 9am Thursday 2nd April. 

ASA will print on behalf of each candidate, the equivalent of 40 * A3 (e.g 80 * A4, or 12 * A5) posters or fliers, provided a PRINT-READY file is provided. 

Candidates may spend no more than $115 on their campaign and must provide a record of all expenditure to the Returning Officer, if requested to do so. 

All candidates must attend at least one meeting of the ASA Executive prior to the election. Meetings are held at the ASA Office in the Student Lounge. Please advise the Administration Vice-President (AVP@asa.ac.nz)which meeting you will be attending. 


Candidates' Speeches BBQ

ASA will host a BBQ between 12pm and 2pm on Wednesday 15th August and each candidate will have the opportunity to speak to the student population and answer questions. 


Voting

All currently enrolled, Albany Internal students are eligible to vote but to do so need to sign up as members of the Association on the ASA website.

Voting will be online through the ASA Website.  Members will need to sign in on the members panel to vote.
