MUA Snow Club (2020/R4)

On the 24th of July the MUASC set off for a trip to Mt Ruapehu, the first trip to real snow for the winter snow season of 2020! We stayed at Ohakune Central Backpackers & cabins on the Turoa side of the mountain.

We woke up early Saturday morning and got ready for the snow. This was the first weekend Ruapehu's new parking booking system was used and it surprisingly easy to use. The weather was pretty good, but the upper mountain was closed till midday due to Friday's blizzard conditions. There were very long lines due to this. Despite delays, everyone had a great time, especially those who were touching snow for the first time this year. On the Saturday night we went down to the Powderkeg bar to see one of the best Drum and Bass duos NZ has to offer called State of Mind.

On Sunday the weather was good, and most of us despite being pretty tired and unfit we had another great day. Both days we all caught up together for lunch and on Sunday we managed to grab some photos.

The trip was hugely successful and had others sign up for the next trip the day after we got back. Several people also asked about club hoodies which is very inspiring.

As we applied for a grant from the ASA and it was approved, the costs of travel and accommodation was greatly reduced. We were also lucky enough to be able to use the ASA's van, meaning it was far easier to get everyone down to the snow. We are very grateful for the committee approving the grant, and for the ASA's help in getting us down there. Our next trip is down to the South Island, so we are all looking forward to that one. The MUASC is on a roll this year, and we would love to see more of you come along to the snow with us! Cheers!
