MAPSA - Massey Albany Pasifika Students' Association (2021/R1)

We are pleased to report that Clubs Day on 21 April went very well. Our entire executive committee was in attendance at our stall dressed in island themed clothing. This was our first time serving 'Otai (a traditional Tongan fruity drink) which was a hit with passers by. We ended up running out by the end of clubs day!

We also trialled a new game - Name the Pacific Island flags. One student surprised us all by naming 7/8 flags correctly. The game and 'Otai worked well to spark conversation about the Pacific Islands, plus an opportunity to share our traditions and love for our cultures. To thank participants for playing, we gave away ula loles (lolly necklaces). A representative of the Toast Masters Club commented on the authenticity of our stall, reflecting exactly what we were trying to achieve. In the past we have run games like Guess the Lollies in the Jar. While games like these are entertaining, we did miss out on the opportunity to share our culture with other students. This was not the case this time around.

We'd like to thank the committee for helping us deliver on such a successful clubs day. The funds used for making otai and decorating our stall definitely made this clubs day memorable for MAPSA. We look forward to future clubs day events.
