Edmonds Baking Class
MUAFTS - MUA Food Technology Society (2021/R3)
On Monday 5th of July 2021 from 10am-12pm, the Massey University Albany Food Technology Society (MUAFTS) attended a Edmonds Black Forest Gateau Baking Class. The class was held at Chelsea Bay in Birkenhead. A range of Food Technology students from our MUAFTS club attended the event. The students learnt how to make a traditional Black Forest Gateaux with a qualified patisserie chef in the state-of-the-art Edmonds Baking School. Step-by step instructions were provided with demonstrations by the expert patisserie chef. We made and baked a delicious chocolate sponge, made a Morello cherry mixture, chocolate cream filling and cream. We also learnt how to pipe the cream into spirals and how to decorate with shaved chocolate and cherries. We also got to take our stunning and delicious gateau home in a presentation box, as well as a recipe for us to practice at home. Overall, the event was successful in terms of giving food technology students a fun, hands-on experience and giving them another chance to get to know their peers from other years!
