MUA Snow Club (2022/R2)

Trip 1 (29-31 July 2022)

Post Grant Report Snow Club Mount Trip 1 1

Our first Winter Weekend snow trip went amazingly well. We all met up at Massey university Friday night and had a swell time driving down to the mountain together. On the Saturday the mountain was open, so we all bundled up into the van and drove up to the mountain super early, to get the most of the snow! We spent the day snowboarding and skiing on the mountain, only taking a break at lunch time to get together and eat and socialize. We all met up again after the day on the snow at the van, and then drove down to go and pick up our delicious fish n chips takeaways. Food tastes amazing after a day spent on the snow! Our hungry members very quickly gobbled it up. We spent the rest of the evening hanging out together in our sweet accommodation. We had a whole chalet to ourselves! We built up the fire and played games in front of it. After the fun time, most members went to sleep, having used all their energy up. On Sunday we packed up and got ready for the long drive back to Auckland. We stopped at the famous Ohakune carrot on our way out and also grabbed some delicious mountain kebabs to tide us over on the long drive home.

It was an awesome trip, with all the members saying they really enjoyed it!

Trip 2 (12-14 August 2022)

Post Grant Report Snow Club Mount Trip 2 1

Our second Winter Weekend snow trip went amazingly well. We all met up at Massey university Friday night and had a swell time driving down to the mountain together.

The weather was great both Saturday & Sunday, so we headed over to Whakapapa side mountain to board on Saturday as they had a special twilight skiing event on, which allowed people to ski for an extra 1.5hours from 4pm - 5:30pm on the Rangatira express. They also had a live DJ going at the café on the mountain, which was super cool, we enjoyed listening to his beats at lunch. Most members spent the whole day on the mountain boarding, so we were all pretty tired when we met up afterwards at the van and drove back to Ohakune. The fish & chips were a great hit for dinner, with everyone being super hungry after using all their energy on the mountain. We also really really enjoyed being able to soak our tired and sore muscles in the hot tub at the accommodation after falling around on the mountain all day! We all turned in pretty early on Saturday, after the long day. On Sunday we were all refreshed and ready to hit the slopes again! This time we went to Turoa side of the mountain, the snow was awesome, especially in the morning. Members had a great time boarding/skiing together and most spent the entire day on the mountain again. We all met at the van, had a delicious dinner kebab stop and shop stop and then started the long drive back to Auckland. Members had a sweet time talking about the runs they had done and about boarding/skiing and just sharing their enthusiasm for snow and other activities in general. All our members really enjoyed the trip and were very thankful for it being organized and subsidized, many mentioned they would not have come and tried Snowsports/went down to mountain without it as the cost is usually too expensive for them!
