MUASC set off on a trip to Mt Ruapehu
MUA Snow Club (2019/R3)
On the 19th of July the MUASC set off for a trip to Mt Ruapehu, the first trip to real snow for the winter snow season of 2019! We stayed in the MUAC Hut on the Turoa side of the mountain. We woke up early Saturday morning and got ready for the snow. The weather was not great however, as it was raining and foggy for the majority of the day. Despite the poor conditions, everyone had a great time, especially those who were touching snow for the first time this year. Luckily we had a fire to dry all of our gear out after the day.
On the Saturday night we were joined at the hut by our Palmerston North counterpart, the Massey Surf, Snow and Skate club. We had a great time meeting them and had a bit of a party that night. The next morning we awoke to far better conditions on the mountain. We decided to take some group photos to commemorate our clubs first outing to Mt Ruapehu in many years, and also meeting up with the Palmy club. After this, we headed to the slopes and spent the day skiing/boarding. Everyone had a great time and we were all glad we got to go down to the snow.
As we applied for a grant from the ASA and it was approved, the costs of travel and accommodation was greatly reduced. We were also lucky enough to be able to use the ASAs van, meaning it was far easier to get everyone down to the snow. We are very grateful for the committee approving the grant, and for the ASAs help in getting us down there. Our next trip is down to the South Island, so we are all looking forward to that one. The MUASC is on a roll this year, and we would love to see more of you come along to the snow with us! Cheers!
