Massey University Business Clubs Networking Event

millennials

On Monday the 1st of August the Investment Club, Beta Alpha Psi, The Accountancy Club and MUSE came together to host a Business Clubs Networking Evening. Click continue reading for our brief summary of the event, accompanied by photos and a thank you to those who supported the event.

Despite the heavy rain, over 50 students came along to the Wonder Room where we were able to put on food and drinks with the support of the Clubs Grant Committee. The evening kicked off with a welcome and an introduction to each of the clubs. From there students had the opportunity to hear from three speakers. Colin Chisholm, the Investment Manager at Fulqrum, began with his journey from Victoria University through overseas work, a stint at Westpac and finally some really exciting new opportunities with Fulqrum. His achievements were certainly inspiring for many that were there.

Next up was Nelson Patchett, co-founder of the Millennials Network. Nelson began in New Zealand having moved from Australia and detailed his time learning how to build and maintain relationships and how this, teamed with determination and confidence can open many doors. The Millennials Network is a fantastic initiative centered on the loneliness that can face many young people as they leave school or university and building a support network to combat this. As a group they meet twice a month, once socially and once for a problem solving session.

Finally, Nick Hindson the curious-ator of the Wonder Room, spoke about the innovative core of the Wonder Room. As a space in which students across all disciplines are able to get together and think the unthinkable to facilitate the creation and development of new and innovative ideas. A special thanks goes out to Mike Fizer whose determination and vision brought this space to fruition. Nick invited us to write on the walls as one of the key features of this space is whiteboard walls!

The rest of the evening was spent building new friendships, finding out about the clubs present and chatting the night away!
